Short Description

SIGNAL SKIN imagines fashion as a temporary signal body: an interface where the wearer and urban infrastructure, matter and information, briefly converge. Tokyo Skytree grounds this idea in the city’s changing broadcast infrastructure: when Tokyo’s major terrestrial television broadcasters shifted their transmissions from Tokyo Tower to Skytree, the city acquired a new transmitting spine.
Invisible signals pass through the model and emerge as blue channels embedded within opalescent membranes. Forming a translucent second skin, these membranes carry the signals outward into a monumental couture silhouette.
The model becomes both receiver and converter, giving material presence to Tokyo’s dense flows of people, data, and communication. By translating infrastructure into skin, SIGNAL SKIN asks where the body ends and the network begins. The gown captures the instant when invisible transmission acquires a body—and the city becomes wearable.

Prompt Logic

The image was developed around a controlled tension between Tokyo Skytree’s precise verticality and an organic couture form expanding through the frame. The low camera angle places the model’s raised arm in dialogue with the tower, allowing Skytree to function as a transmitting axis rather than as background scenery.
The garment logic combines translucent, opalescent membranes with a restrained network of blue channels embedded within the material. Iterations prioritized a readable couture silhouette, continuity between the body and the expanding membranes, and a clear distinction between the internal signal paths and the surrounding structure.
The full-body view establishes scale, infrastructure, and silhouette, while the portrait view examines the material as a second skin. Localized AI-assisted editing and Photoshop retouching were used to refine anatomy, membrane continuity, tonal hierarchy, and visual consistency across both views.

Process

SIGNAL SKIN began with a question: what would it mean for the body to wear the city’s invisible information rather than view it on a screen?
Early generations drifted toward liquid spectacle, decorative excess, and generic futurism. Through iteration, the visual language was reduced to a restrained set of internal blue channels, controlled translucency, a cleaner upper-body structure, and a monumental lower silhouette extending across the rooftop space rather than resolving as a conventional garment.
The full-body composition was developed first to establish scale, transmission, and a clear spatial relationship with Tokyo Skytree. A portrait view was then developed to test the same material logic at close range, where the membrane could read as a second skin.
The work was generated with Seedream, refined through localized Nano Banana edits, retouched in Photoshop for anatomical and material continuity, and upscaled with Topaz Gigapixel.
