The Last Stitch
Short Description
This work explores the relationship between identity, memory, and fashion through the idea of a designer and her creation becoming one and the same.
At the center of the image, a model stands wearing an impossible haute couture garment assembled from fragments of forgotten clothing: denim, leather, velvet, delicate translucent fabrics and precious details. Beside her, a designer makes the final, almost imperceptible gesture of finishing the piece, as if a needle were still held between her fingers.
They appear to be the same woman.
This ambiguity is intentional. The model represents the creation, while the designer represents the part of the creator that never stopped making. The garment becomes a visual metaphor for everything that has been collected, preserved, abandoned and ultimately transformed into something new.
The imperfections of the materials — worn surfaces, stains, tears, raw edges and contrasting textures — are not concealed. They become part of the beauty and identity of the garment.
What appears to be two women is ultimately one identity: creator and creation, past and present, existing in the same moment.
Prompt Logic
Created in Midjourney using a conceptual fashion prompt exploring surreal haute couture, upcycling, identity and the relationship between creator and creation.
The visual language combines reconstructed vintage garments, exaggerated couture proportions, contrasting textures and subtle surrealism. The two central figures were intentionally designed to appear almost identical, creating an ambiguity between the designer and the model.
The composition was conceived as an intentional high-fashion cover rather than a conventional backstage photograph. A dark photographic studio, controlled low-key lighting and subtle atmospheric light effects create an intimate and cinematic environment while keeping the two figures and the garment at the center of the image.
Process
The concept comes from my personal relationship with fashion and clothing. For years, I worked with vintage garments, customizing and transforming existing pieces through upcycling. Over time, I stepped away from that practice, but the clothes, fabrics and ideas remained stored away, becoming a kind of unfinished chapter of my creative life.
This work is an attempt to bring that part of myself back into existence through AI.
The garment in the image is inspired by the materials and textures that have surrounded me for years: old denim, leather, velvet, delicate fabrics, damaged textiles and valuable details that were kept rather than discarded. In the imagined couture piece, these elements are brought together in an intentionally imperfect and surreal form.
The relationship between the two women is also personal. I have experienced fashion from both sides — creating garments and being in front of the camera as a model. Bringing the designer and the model together as the same person became a way of representing those two parts of my identity within a single image.
AI became the medium through which I could visualize a garment that does not physically exist, but represents something that does: the desire to create, transform and give new meaning to what has been left behind.
The final image is therefore not only about a futuristic garment. It is about returning to a part of myself that was never completely gone.
