Social armor
Short Description
This piece is about how people slowly learn to hold back what they really think to avoid backlash, judgment, or exclusion. The metal structure across the face represents emotional and social armor built over time. Cold, controlled, and restrictive, it becomes part of the person instead of something forced onto them. Expression has been reduced into something safer and more controlled, shaped to fit what society is more comfortable accepting. The work reflects how constant pressure to stay careful, agreeable, and filtered can slowly replace honest expression.
Process
I created the image in Midjourney V8.1 with the goal of making a portrait that felt connected to modern society and the way people slowly filter themselves over time. I wanted the face to feel restrained without using something obvious like tape or a mask. The metal structure became a way to represent emotional and social pressure turning into part of a person’s identity.
After generating the base image, I used Adobe Firefly for minor cleanup and refinements to keep the details coherent and natural. The final image was then enhanced using Leonardo AI Pro Upscaler to preserve texture, sharpness, and the realistic surface quality of the portrait.
