Short Description

ARMOUR explores protection as both necessity and barrier. The face becomes a site of defence, where sculptural structures conceal, shield and restrict. Each portrait asks when protection becomes distance — and when armour begins to shape identity itself.

Prompt Logic

The prompt logic combined tightly framed portrait photography with sculptural protective wearables. Recurring elements included frontal compositions, controlled studio lighting, reduced backgrounds, metallic surfaces and strong contrasts between skin and constructed form.

Individual prompts varied the type and position of the armour: spherical eye coverings, rigid visors, chained mouth structures and geometric masks. Each variation explored a different psychological condition — defence, blindness, silence, withdrawal or confrontation.

The final selection focused on images that remained unmistakably portraits even when the face was partially concealed. The aim was not to design masks, but to use protective forms as extensions of the subject’s inner state.

Process

ARMOUR began with the idea of the face as both identity and vulnerability. I developed fictional protective structures that sit between armour, mask, prosthesis and adornment.

The challenge was to preserve the psychological presence of the portrait while partially obscuring the face. The gaze, mouth, posture and tension between skin and object had to remain emotionally readable.

Through repeated iterations, the forms became increasingly reduced and sculptural. Protection was never meant to appear neutral: it could suggest safety, pressure, restraint, silence or isolation. The final images function less as costume studies than as portraits of defensive states.
