Born Sharp

Born Sharp is a work about the distinct edge that exists within each person from birth, yet is not always easy to reveal. Here, “sharp” does not simply refer to an aggressive or forceful attitude. It represents the vivid individuality created when seemingly contradictory qualities—strength and comfort, familiarity and unfamiliarity—coexist within one person. Rather than smoothing ourselves into shapes that conform to the expectations of others, I believe a personal style becomes complete when we openly reveal our natural edges and imbalances. The title suggests that individuality is not something added later as decoration, but something already present within us, projecting outward the moment it is expressed.

The outfit visualizes this identity through contrasting materials and silhouettes. Black leather and the repetitive grid structure wrapping the upper body protect the figure like rigid armor, while their reflective surfaces strongly attract the viewer’s gaze. The spikes rising from the shoulders and back symbolize a hidden individuality erupting outward and function as sculptural devices that extend the body beyond its natural form. Belts and buckles around the waist introduce tension and order to the freely protruding structure, while the voluminous cargo pants create flexibility and comfort in contrast with the solid upper body. Familiar white sneakers connect the unfamiliar, futuristic outfit to an everyday sense of reality. Sharp and experimental elements collide with relaxed and recognizable items, yet coexist naturally within a single figure.

The AI process was developed not as a single act of generating a finished image, but as a sequence of designing and refining the clothing, figure, and viewpoint. I first wrote detailed prompts describing the desired materials, silhouette, placement and density of the spikes, gloss of the leather, and structural details of the belts and cargo pants, then used them to dress the model. I repeatedly refined the generated results, adjusting the shapes and connections of the embellishments, bodily proportions, fabric folds, and material expressions so that the clothing would appear physically wearable. In the final stage, I moved the camera to a more dramatic extreme low angle to strengthen both the figure’s attitude and the protruding forms of the outfit. This perspective enlarges the sneakers in the foreground and makes the spiked upper body rise powerfully above them, amplifying the figure’s presence and defiant character. In this project, AI was used not simply as an image-generation tool, but as a collaborative medium for visually testing, challenging, and refining the design concept.
